Piano Lessons For Every Goal and Aspiration

Piano Lessons in Dallas For Kids and Teens

We work with many families in Dallas and the surrounding areas. We always encourage our young students to enjoy music, not just play each note perfectly on the piano — we’ve found that fostering a sense of fascination and enjoyment leads to longterm success at the piano. We help our students want to practice!

We can help your child or teenager prepare for Guild auditions, MTNA contests, or even college auditions, but we can also help them learn to write songs on the piano, play their favorite video game theme music, or start to improvise. We use our significant experience to personalize each lesson in a way that sparks creativity and encourages a lifetime of fulfillment in music.

That said, we always instill a strong sense of fundamentals. On the technical side, we will teach proper hand position, wrist rotation, posture, and tension-free playing so that your child doesn’t develop discomfort. Bad technique can also limit speed and dynamic contrast in the future. We also teacher note reading, sight reading, scales and arpeggios, repertoire selection, and other concepts as your young pianists develops. We never proceed faster than a student is comfortable, and we also find music that is both exciting, and that will push technical and musical boundaries.

Piano Lessons For Adults

Many of our adult piano students request that we cover specific concepts in our lessons, and we are always happy to do so. Some students have always wanted to the learn the music of a particular composer, while others have played the piano for years but can’t sight read fluently. Others want to dive deep into music theory, and still more students have issues with tenion or tendonitis. Whatever your case may be, let us know so we can develop the perfect lesson progression and curriculum for you.

Caring, Knowledgeable Piano Teachers in Dallas

Get a Holistic Music Education

We want our students to understand music more deeply than simply technical exercises or memorized pieces on the piano. You will learn to read both the bass and treble clef, and we will practice sight reading as you improve. We will also teach chords and music theory, and that will develop into playing by ear and improvising as you gain confidence. Rhythm is another fundamental aspect of music education — you’ll learn time signatures (4/4, 6/8 etc.), note values, and how to recognize rhythmic patterns in music. We even teach music theory to students in a structured, skill level appropriate manner, so whether you are learning scale degrees, major and minor keys, or musical form, your understanding of music will improve.

You Don’t Need a Professional Piano at Home

We’re often asked if you need a grand piano, or even an acoustic piano, at home to start piano lesson.s The answer is no. We do recommend that your keyboard have the full 88 keys (as opposed to many smaller 66-key electric pianos), but this is not a deal breaker. Students also benefit from weighted keys, so they can learn touch and good technique, and having a realistic pedal included with the piano can be important. As far as digital pianos go, the Clavinova line from Yamaha is about as good as it gets, but other brands like Casio make quality digital pianos as well. If you have any questions about the instrument you have at home, feel free to contact us.

Yes, Students Can Learn Well at Home

We’ve seen extraordinary results from our in-home piano lessons in Dallas. You may think that the presence of siblings, or the familiarity of the home environment, impedes learning — but this is not the case. Our students are often more comfortable, open to instruction, and less timid at home than they would be in a more formal environment. Parents are also more than welcome to sit in and take notes. In fact, we encourage this! Parents need to be involved if their children are to practice regularly throughout the week.
